This is a post by EBBC14 supporter and host of the evening party on Saturday, June 28, Carlow Brewing Company.
At Carlow Brewing Company our focus has always been on the ancient craft of brewing, situated as we are in the Barrow Valley with its centuries old tradition of brewing Irish craft beers. While Ireland’s prestigious reputation for producing quality beers dwindled over time, a craft brewing revival began in Britain and America in the 1980’s when these two countries gained great diversity in brewing and Ireland looked to follow suit.
In the early 1990’s the O’Hara family, along with a few other beer-loving entrepreneurs, stepped onto the scene, ready to put Ireland on the map. Ireland’s microbreweries were born again and the wheels were set in motion for the slow but highly successful craft beer renaissance. As one of the originators and innovators of the craft brewing revival in Ireland, Carlow Brewing Company and the O’Hara family have managed to take this heritage and bring our brewery the point where we now brew a range multi-award winning Irish craft beers.
On Saturday, June 28th, attendees of the 2014 European Beer Bloggers Conference are invited to join us at the Cellar Bar in the Church for an evening of traditional Irish music. The evening will evoke memories of the tradition of craft brewing in this country and guests will taste our award winning Irish craft beers and stouts. We look forward to sharing images of our brewery here in Bagenalstown, and our brewers look forward to meeting EBBC14 attending and getting to chat about our brewing process and answer any questions they might have on the craft beers they’re tasting.
We want EBBC bloggers to engage with us and feel our passion for brewing Irish craft beers and to this end we plan to invite guests that evening to create a new beer with our brewers. We’ll explore what attendees would like to see in a craft beer and have them submit their ideas for the beer they’ll create. We’ll stay in touch with the bloggers after the event and contact them to help us name their beer once we’ve picked our favourite.
