A Note from EBBC15 Partner, Belgian Family Brewers
The first day of EBBC15 is hosted by Belgian Family Brewers @BelFamBrewers. The members of BFB are Belgian breweries who have been brewing beer in the same family for at least 50 years. Together they represent 3500 years of experience in traditional beer brewing. No less than 185 beers carry the BFB label. With this label of authenticity, the association gives the consumer a guarantee of the origin and traditional production of its beers. If you see the label, you can savour the beer with your eyes closed.
What the beers have in common is that they are all ‘balanced specialty beers’. Yet, every beer has its own flavour and aroma. BFB covers a wide range of beer styles, but every beer is a unique beer, no copies are sold under any other brand name. Every member is presenting one of its top beers on this first day, so get ready to discover a few hidden treasures.
We kick off the conference at 11.30 am with a buffet lunch with typical Belgian Cuisine provided by Visit Belgium @BelgiumInfo While enjoying your food, you can already try eleven BFB beers (link to separate post). All members of Belgian Family Brewers will be present and ready to answer your questions. You will be able to hear the backstory of each beer straight from the source!
After lunch the conference is officially opened by Phillippe Close, Alderman of Tourism for the City of Brussels and Xavier Vanneste, President of Belgian Family Brewers.
In the afternoon two sessions are planned:
- Being in Belgium a panel discussion on the History, Present and Future of Brewing in Belgium had to be on the agenda. A panel of family brewers are brought together and will give you insights in the secret history of brewing in the land of beer. Next to tradition, innovation is also crucial in the industry, so the present and future of brewing will also be covered.
- During the conference there will be plenty to write and talk about. But maybe you sometimes get stuck while writing a story? The second session is full of useful tips and tricks from successful international journalists at Finding Content Beyond the Beer Review.
After these two inspirational sessions, the president is calling his troops together. ‘Belgian Family Brewers’ has news and would like to share it with all the bloggers and writers during an official press conference. That’s right – we have a scoop for you! The Belgian Press will also be invited, so the news is pretty huge!
The first day of the conference is closed by the exciting and frenetic Live Beer Blogging with more specialty beers carrying the BFB logo. The Belgian Family Brewers will still be here, ready to present their beer and to answer every question. After LBB everyone is invited to dinner with the brewers at one of the best restaurants in Brussels, the Belga Queen, then followed by the Evening Event featuring ALL 22 Master Brewers at the Delirium Café.
We look forward to seeing all beer bloggers and writers in Brussels this week!
