Earlier this month, Milwaukee Brewing Company began construction of their new destination brewery located in downtown Milwaukee. The former Pabst Brewing building also known as, “Building 42,” was previously used as a transport hub for Pabst, and will serve as the perfect solution to Milwaukee Brewing’s expansion needs thanks to the building’s heavy-duty structure.
2nd Street Location
Milwaukee Brewing Company is currently working out of their 2nd Street, 50 bbl Packaging facility, which was founded by Jim McCabe in 1997. Despite massive gains in production and efficiency at the 2nd Street Brewery, the space is not nearly enough. With no room to grow in the Walker’s Point neighborhood they decided to purchase the 165,000-square foot Pabst building.
Milwaukee Brewing will keep the 2nd Street location for use as a pilot brewery, and to expand its award-winning barrel-aged beer program and sour beer production.
Building 42
Once complete, Building 42 will include a tasting room, rooftop-patio bar, retail store, and will be on pace to produce 14,500 barrels a year. The former Pabst bottling house will take advantage of its downtown location. Just a few blocks from the new Milwaukee Bucks arena, the rooftop bar will feature breathtaking views of the Milwaukee skyline and Lake Michigan. The project aims to be operations in the first half of 2018.
