Heard of Kilfrost? There’s a strong chance you haven’t. As the original pioneers of safety critical fluids for the aviation industry, why would you?
Well, now our talented chemists and scientists have been working hard in the lab for more than two years and have brought their expertise in heat transfer and cooling to the brewing and beverage industry.
When designing your brewery systems, did you face the dilemma of which heat transfer fluid to use in temperature control? You’re not alone, many brewers and plant managers have too.
Generally-speaking, there are two fluids to choose from – and neither offer both safety and performance. One has toxic properties and the other lacks efficiency. It’s a decades-old argument, but one that doesn’t go away.
A fluid revolution
The brewing industry has long been seeking an energy-efficient and safe alternative to current heat transfer fluids, that not only brings in cost-savings but isn’t a compromise on the quality of the end product.
Kilfrost is proud to end that search and has launched ALV Plus, which for the first time gives a commercial solution to the long-standing efficiency-versus-toxicity challenge. It could revolutionize brewing practices globally, and brew up big savings.
The Kilfrost ALV Plus fluid is a low viscosity heat transfer fluid formulated with organic, approved inhibitors and viscosity modifiers. It’s been developed to reduce the incidence of pressure drops, as well as to reduce pumping costs and increase hydraulic efficiency, saving money.
The best part is that it’s certified to the U.S. NSF standard as safe for incidental contact with food and beverage, while also offering superior performance. But don’t just take my word for it.
Pillars Brewery
We’ve been working with London-based brewers Pillars Brewery, who produce craft lager. The brewers at Pillars were looking for the most efficient glycol product for use in cooling the Brewery’s fermentation tanks.
They also needed a less viscous product than what’s generally used in brewing so they could crash cool their beer more quickly. Choosing ALV Plus means not only a reduction in electricity costs but means the brewery can stay true to its values by having a smaller carbon footprint, and a focus on innovation and quality.
Pillars Founder and Brewer, Gavin Litton, told us that thanks to Kilfrost ALV Plus, his pumps were working less hard, using less energy to circulate liquids around the plant. He’s been so impressed with the performance of the fluid, because it not only saves them money, but also means they’re as energy-efficient and environmentally-friendly as possible, which is at the heart of what they stand for as a brewery.
