For many, BrewDog is making dreams come true with its 2018 Beer Geek Awards. The prize? For those of us in the United States, each category winner gets a trophy and a trip to Denver, Colorado, to attend the Great American Beer Festival (September 20-22, 2018)! And what might those categories be? Well, there are seven from which to choose:
- BEER TASTING GEEK
- BREWERY HOPPER
- BEER PHOTOGRAPHER
- BEER SCHOLAR
- BEER BLOGGER
- BEER SOCIAL MEDIA GEEK
- BEER REVIEW GEEK
Let’s look at the criteria for just one of these categories: BEER BLOGGER GEEK, since that’s the core audience of attendees at the Beer Bloggers and Writers Conference (haven’t registered yet? Click here!):
(taken from the contest website)
Criteria:
– Submit links to 3 amazing blog posts where the main focus is craft beer or the industry.
– All blogs must be live at the time of submission, and must have been posted during the 12 months between 11th May 2017 and 11th May 2018.
WHAT IS THE CRITERIA FOR WINNING EACH CATEGORY?
The overarching criteria for the Beer Geek Awards is that your main income must not come from the beer industry.
Each category will have their own criteria for entry, you can find out more when the 2018 competition opens soon!
We will ask however, that you are over 18 years of age and that you do not get your primary income from the beer industry.
The Beer Geek Awards 2018 are open to entrants from the UK, USA and Europe. We’re going global!
Each category will be judged by the beer experts in the judging panel.

What BrewDog is doing with this competition that is truly unique is making it global. So while there will be a set of category winners from the U.S. there will be another set of category winners from the U.K., and then those winners will go head-to-head to be crowned the ultimate BEER GEEK!
Said top BEER GEEKS are awarded international travel to amazing beer destinations. The U.K. winner gets a five-day trip to San Diego, and the U.S. winner gets a five-day trip to Brussels!
There are two panels of judges for the competition; respectively, one for the U.S. competition and one for the U.K. competition. On the U.S. panel will be BeerAdvocate’s own, Ben Keene, and Brew Studs‘ Jeremy Fultz, both very familiar with the Beer Bloggers and Writers Conference!
Is there a catch? Not really, but kind of: YOU ONLY HAVE UNTIL JUNE 20 TO SUBMIT YOUR ENTRY!
So if you’re reading this, there’s not much time. Go, go, go! And good luck!
